Lisa's loss and Offline.
Very big hugs and much deep sympathy to [info]waterdawg. Lisa's beloved dog Rosie, quite old and sick for a while now, finally died of various complications from her illness. She wasn't an unhappy dog kept alive too long, not at all, just knew when to leave. Lisa is very very upset at the moment and has been ill with migraines and sickness as a result. I can understand that. Losing Soo cat at christmas was horrible and having been through it too many times before I have perspective.

One can't feel the same way as someone else about something like this but imagining's bad enough. So enormous good vibes and much love to Lisa and I pray all her other problems at the moment just stay put for a second and let her catch her breath.
XXX

In other news I am off to stay much closer to here for three days so as to avoid constant travel back and forth.

Back here and online Friday. When I also am allegedly have a washing machine delivered and perhaps a visit from the landlady's agent's workman.

Take care everyone, especially those going through the wars - you know who you are. And especially Lisa.

old cartoon and technical hassles

I can't remember how to post images via link from Flickr, where I also have some of these stored. And at work I had to use our alternate browser, Firefox, because in Safari the upload buttons don't work, at least today.

(Addendum, some time after writing first paragraph) On Flickr I found a "blog this" function, which obviously works (hence the other copy of the cartoon) But that wasn't how I did it the only other time I linked to Flickr, back in October.

I'm tempted sometimes to go back to scissors and glue and typewriters.

Ж-Men...but not the ones you might expect!
This week LJ Russia launched Ж-Men, a new comedy series about superheroes, inspired by the LJ communities dedicated to superheros, comics and cartoons. The title's "Ж" comes from ЖЖ, the nickname for LiveJournal in Russia.

Ж-Men's script is written by a group of LJ enthusiasts who also happen to be television professionals. Who knew? Following the premiere, five more episodes will be broadcast over the next two weeks. We hope you find the series fresh and enjoyable.

This is, of course, an experiment for LiveJournal. As always, we'd love to hear what you think!

Two more
Here are two more cartoon tributes I just did tonight.
Likely they're too late for the BAPA zine (for which I've already sent two cartoons.)

My drawing is greatly hindered by the fact that--despite an illusion I held for decades-- I can't really draw. But Steve encouraged me anyway, and that's what these are about.

Steve tribute B-APA status
Pieces are coming in for the B-APA special - I've got contributions from Lee Brimmicombe-Wood, Matt Brooker, Daryl Cunningham, Ross, Jeremy Dennis, John Cei Douglas, Nigel Fletcher, Martin Hand, Mike Mittelstadt, David Howarth & Sylvia Shepperson, Frank Plowright, Jenni Scott, Mike Teague, Terry Wiley, Keith Williams, and Russell Willis. If your name's not there and you think it should be, get in touch, as I think this is all I've had so far. I know there are a couple of you finishing stuff off, and there's still time for others to contribute.

And I have a question for you all. I want to use Steve's own artwork for the covers. My choice is this for the front:

And this one for the back:

" just to get wet on purpose "

ITEM! sincere w.o.agwu apologies to linda robson & her friends, family & admirers - she came across as fun & goob gompany on sunday's repeat of come dine with me - not "an awful person" as i said on friday - it's just that she's NEVER been in a telly programme that wasn't gomplete sh*t before ( - celeb masterchef is the other exception, obv ) - to be fair she wasn't even the worst person in birds of a feather ( - that "honour" must go to lesley joseph, who really is awful - i spose the one redeeming feature of shine on harvey moon = it didn't have lesley joseph in it ) - i feel safe in saying that la robson IS an awful cook tho

those come dine with me celeb special 2006 results in full: 1st toby young, joint 2nd rowland rivron & aggie mackenzie, 4th anneka rice, 5th linda robson

ITEM! talking of linda robson, i always associate her oppo pauline quirke with the smell of fish - when i lived in palmers green i had to walk past the fishmongers on my way to & from the railway station - & for at least two years there was a big picture of pauline quirke prominently displayed in the window - so now when i see pauline quirke on the telly i always think i can smell fish

ITEM! now i yam officially a heathen dept: while visiting my aged ma & pa in clacton on sea at the weekend we went out to dinner with three auntys & a cousin ( all on my dad's side ) - when one of my auntys announced she was going on to croatia in october the first thing i said was "they've got a goob football team" - & then i asked if she was going as part of a stag or hen weekend as eastern european gountries are v.popular for such outings - but no, of course - it's a pilgrimage up a mountain to a shrine to the blessed virgin mary with a statue that can heal the sick - wot an exquisite faux pas...!

( sadly as far as i could gather this healing statue of OUR LADY neither weeps or bleeds )

ITEM! i was pleased to see camp aeroflot supervisor jeremy spake on the telly again in yesterday's return to airport documentary - when i worked in victoria in the mid 1990s ( w/lots of heathrow staff going thru the stn all the time ) i used to get mistaken for him quite a lot - unfortunately he's aged rather better than me so that's unlikely to happen again

my fave character in airport was michelle, the rather highly strung orange lady with the big walky talky - she always seemed to be on the verge of hysteria & often made situations worse rather than calming them down - but alas i was never mistaken for her - she still works at heathrow nowadays & is learning to talk to animals ( doctor doolittle stylee ) in her spare time...

ITEM! "instead of lying on this hard bed i could be in magaluf now with the girls - pissed unconscious on the floor with people throwing money at me" - becky, BB9
